Blue Point business reviews, phone numbers, addresses, maps & driving directions of Blue Point, New York businesses
The hamlet of Blue Point sits on scenic Patchogue Bay. Blue Point’s name is said to come from the blue haze that settles over Patchogue Bay at Blue Point. The oldest home in Blue Point is the Joseph Avery homestead, which was built in 1812. Joseph Avery was the first to seed oysters in Blue Point’s bay. Soon, all oysters in the bay came to be called Blue Point oysters.
With a far lower crime rate than the national average, Blue Point is ideal for families, despite a history as a popular vacation destination. Over one-third of Blue Point’s residents are families with children under the age of 18. Nearly 80 percent of homes in Blue Point are occupied by their owners, showing that Blue Point is not just a vacation destination, but also a real community.
